Located in Mersin's Anamur district, Mamure Castle, with a history dating back to the 3rd or 4th centuries and rebuilt by the Seljuks 800 years ago after a wartime destruction, has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage temporary list.
Ali Yücelen, a businessman from Anamur and a key figure of the Yücelen Foundation, led efforts to have Mamure Castle recognized as a World Heritage site. In collaboration with local civil society organizations, they prepared an extensive application dossier. The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, after reviewing the documents, submitted Mamure Castle for inclusion in the UNESCO temporary list.
Ali Yücelen emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, "This effort is a prime example of what civil society and private sector organizations can accomplish together in Türkiye. Protecting cultural heritage is one of the most important global undertakings. The inclusion of Mamure Castle in the temporary list, and eventually the main World Heritage List, is a tremendous success. Once the project is fully realized, Anamur will transform into a significant cultural and tourism hub."
This initiative demonstrates Yücelen Foundation’s dedication to preserving Türkiye's historical and cultural treasures.
